From a beach ceremony in Avalon to a grand opening on the Sea Isle promenade, custom banners are the visual centerpiece of shore-town events. Picking the right material and finishing makes the difference between a banner that lasts the weekend and one that flaps itself to pieces in the bay breeze. Here's the practical guide from our print shop in Ocean View.
The four banner materials we print on
1. 13oz scrim vinyl โ the workhorse
Standard outdoor banner material. Waterproof, durable, holds vivid color. Good for 6โ12 months outdoors. Best for: real-estate, restaurants, retail, event signage that gets reused.
2. 18oz heavy-duty vinyl โ long-haul outdoor
Thicker and stiffer. Stands up to wind and weather for 2+ years. Best for: businesses with permanent banner displays, construction sites, large outdoor advertising.
3. Mesh vinyl โ wind-resistant
Tiny perforations let wind pass through. The right choice for any oceanfront, dune-side, or open-field installation. Standard vinyl in a stiff sea breeze becomes a sail; mesh stays put. Lower opacity, so colors are slightly less punchy.
4. Fabric (polyester) โ premium indoor
Soft, no glare, photographs beautifully. Great for: wedding ceremony backdrops, photo-booth banners, trade-show step-and-repeats, indoor restaurant grand openings. Folds without creasing โ easier to store and transport than vinyl.
Sizes we print most
- 2ร4 ft โ small storefront, table-front, sandwich-board insert
- 3ร6 ft โ most common: yard, fence, doorway, event entrance
- 4ร8 ft โ full storefront, large event entrance
- 2ร8 ft horizontal โ narrow above-door or street-pole installations
- Custom up to 60" wide โ anything wider is sewn from panels
Finishing: hems, grommets, pole pockets
How you plan to hang the banner determines the finishing:
- Grommets (metal eyelets, every 18โ24"): use zip ties or rope to hang on fences, posts, structures. Standard.
- Pole pockets (top and/or bottom): slide a wooden dowel through for a clean, taut look โ common for indoor wedding backdrops and step-and-repeats.
- Hemmed edges: doubled-and-stitched edges prevent fraying โ pairs with both grommets and pole pockets.
- Wind slits: small horizontal slits in the banner to let wind pass through. Optional but recommended for any outdoor banner over 4 feet wide.
Common shore-event uses
- Beach weddings in Avalon, Stone Harbor, Sea Isle, Cape May: mesh banners for windy ceremony arches, fabric for indoor receptions
- Restaurant grand openings & seasonal menus
- Charter boat and dock banners โ always mesh, always reinforced grommets
- Festival, parade & community event banners โ Upper Township Fire Co., Sea Isle Beach Patrol, local 5Ks
- Birthday, anniversary, and reunion banners for the shore-house weekend
- Vacation rental welcome banners for the porch on changeover day

File requirements
Send a PDF or AI/EPS file at full size, 150 DPI minimum (banners are viewed from a distance, so you don't need 300 DPI). Include 0.25" bleed. Convert all fonts to outlines. If you only have a JPEG or web-sized image, talk to us before sending โ we can usually clean it up but quality has limits.
FAQs
How long will an outdoor banner last?
13oz vinyl: 6โ12 months. 18oz: 2+ years. Sun, salt, and wind shorten that โ bring it inside off-season if you want to reuse next year.
Can you do double-sided banners?
Yes โ true double-sided is printed on a blockout material so light doesn't bleed through. Common for hanging banners visible from both sides.
Can you store our banner between events?
Yes, with notice. Many local event organizers rotate event-specific banners year to year, and we keep them rolled and indexed for clients we work with regularly.
